Checked Baggage

The ticket type you have booked determines whether you have baggage included, or if you need to purchase this in addition. If you are travelling on Smart, Flex or Full Flex, you have at least one bag up to 23kg included on all journeys with Widerøe. If you are travelling on Mini tickets, no baggage is included. This can easily be added when booking your trip or on My Trips if you have already booked a journey.

If you are only travelling with golf equipment, small musical instrument or fishing rod in addition to hand luggage, you can bring this as checked baggage at no extra charge (not valid for Mini tickets). Please note this does not apply to ski equipment or bicycles. Also note that other airlines have their own baggage rules.

We recommend that valuable items (e.g. passport, money, medicine, jewellery, keys, etc.) are not placed in checked baggage, but in hand luggage, as Widerøe does not compensate for the loss of such items.

If your baggage is too heavy (over 23 kg) and/or you have more pieces of baggage than allowed by your ticket, excess weight or extra baggage can be added for a fee. See prices for extra baggage, special baggage and overweight here.

If your baggage is too large (larger than 158 cm in total height/width/length) or weighs 32.1-45 kg and cannot be split into smaller/lighter pieces, it can be sent as special baggage. See special baggage prices here. All other baggage that is larger than 158 cm in total or weighs more than 32 kg and can be split must be sent as cargo

Separate bookings

Please note that if you are travelling on separete reservations, you must collect your checked in bag on transfer airport, make a new checked in and pass trough new security check at the transfer airport

Custom clearence of checked in bags.

Please note that if you arrive from abroad into Bergen, Stavanger, Tromsø or Sandefjord and are continuing on a domestic flight, you must collect your checked in baggage and take it through customs yourself, even if it is tagged to your final destination.

Add More Checked Baggage

If you need to bring more baggage, this can easily be added to your booking on My Trips as long as your journey starts with Widerøe. Remember to do this early as we have limited space on some of our flights. Prices for extra baggage can be found here. If your journey starts with another airline, extra baggage must be booked directly with the departure airline.

Widerøe operates aircraft types with limited cargo capacity, and therefore special baggage over 23 kg and 158 cm can only be accepted on a standby basis. This means that if your baggage does not travel on the same flight as you, it will be sent on the first flight with available space in the cargo hold. If you are bringing special baggage on your next flight, please read our special baggage rules.

If you are travelling with a pet we recommend booking this as early as possible, as space must be confirmed.

Widerøe in Combination with Other Airlines

Delivery at aircraft (DAA)

To help speed up boarding, reduce aisle congestion and provide a more comfortable journey, on some flights you can deliver hand luggage at the aircraft steps when boarding. You will then receive your baggage at the aircraft steps upon arrival.

Dangerous Goods and Prohibited Items

Dangerous goods are materials and items that, due to their chemical or physical properties, pose a risk to people, the environment, and material assets.

Lithium batteries, which are used as a power source in consumer electronics, can generate high heat if they short circuit and can catch fire if damaged. Therefore, there are restrictions on which lithium batteries may be brought on flights and how they must be handled during transport.

In addition, some items are prohibited from being carried on Widerøe flights and within the security area at the airport due to the risk they may pose to the aircraft or persons on board.

Regulations

Be safe and comply with our rules for dangerous goods, lithium batteries and prohibited items when you fly with us.
