Checked baggage

The ticket type you have booked determines whether you have baggage included or if you need to purchase it separately. If you travel on Smart, Flex or Full Flex, you have at least one piece of baggage max 23 kgs included on all flights with Widerøe. If you travel on Mini tickets, baggage is not included. This can easily be added when you book your trip or on My Trips if you have already booked a trip.

If you are only travelling with golf equipment, small musical instruments or fishing rods in addition to hand luggage, you can bring these as checked baggage without extra charge (does not apply to Mini tickets). Please note that other airlines have their own baggage rules.

We recommend that valuable items (e.g. passport, money, medicine, jewelry, keys, etc.) are not packed in checked baggage but in hand luggage, as Widerøe does not compensate for loss of such items.

If your baggage is too heavy (over 23 kg) and/or you have more pieces of baggage than allowed by your ticket, excess weight or extra baggage can be added for a fee. See prices for extra baggage, special baggage and excess weight here.

If your baggage is too large (larger than 158 cm total in height/width/length) or weighs 32.1-45 kg and cannot be divided into smaller/lighter pieces of baggage, it can be sent as special baggage. See prices for special baggage here. All other baggage that is larger than 158 cm total or weighs more than 32 kg and can be divided must be sent as cargo

Add more checked baggage

If you need to bring more baggage, this can easily be added to your booking on My Trips. Remember to be early as we have limited space on some of our flights. Prices for extra baggage can be found here.

Widerøe operates aircraft with limited cargo capacity and therefore special baggage over 23 kg and 158 cm can only be on a standby basis. This means that if your baggage does not arrive on the same flight as you, it will be sent on the first flight with available cargo space. If you are bringing special baggage on your next flight, please read our special baggage rules.

If you are travelling with pets, we recommend booking this as early as possible, as space must be confirmed.

Delivery at aircraft (DAA)

To help speed up boarding, reduce aisle queues and provide a more comfortable journey, on some flights you can hand over your hand luggage at the aircraft stairs when boarding. You will then receive your baggage at the aircraft stairs upon arrival.

Dangerous goods and prohibited items

Dangerous goods are materials and items which, due to their chemical or physical properties,  pose a risk to people, the environment and material assets.

Lithium batteries, used as a power source in consumer electronics, can generate high heat if short-circuited and catch fire if damaged. Therefore, there are restrictions on which lithium batteries can be brought on flights and how they must be handled during transport.

In addition, some items are prohibited from being brought on Widerøe flights and within the airport security area due to the risk they may pose to the aircraft or persons on board.

Regulations

Be safe and comply with our rules for dangerous goods, lithium batteries and prohibited items when flying with us.
