At the airport

At the airport – what you should know before departure

For a smooth start to your journey, we recommend that you arrive well in advance of departure. How early you should be at the airport depends on your destination and ticket type:

  • Check-in:
Check-in opens 22 hours before departure via the Widerøe app, kiosk, or counter. At smaller short runway airports, check-in may close 30 minutes before departure. At larger airports, specific times apply, but we always recommend being there at least 60 minutes before domestic flights and 90 minutes before international flights.

  • Baggage drop-off:
Drop off checked baggage at the counter or bag drop before check-in closes. Remember to label your baggage clearly. If you have BagID, you can track your baggage digitally throughout your journey.

  • Security control:
Remove electronics and liquids (up to 100 ml per container in a transparent bag). Be aware of prohibited items such as knives, tools, and certain types of batteries.

  • Boarding:
Boarding usually starts 20 minutes before departure, and the gate closes 15 minutes before departure. On the short runway network, boarding can happen quickly after arriving at the gate.

  • Special assistance:
If you have booked assistance, please arrive early and check in with the check-in or gate staff. We do our best to provide you with a safe travel experience.

  • Tips:

    • Keep travel documents and identification easily accessible.

    • Follow signage and information on screens.

    • Use the Widerøe app for updated gate and flight information.
