Baggage

Travelling with a Norwegian national costume

Always take the costume and the silver with you as hand baggage, as liability on Widerøe’s part and standard travel insurance policies have low limits that rarely cover the actual value. Remember that the costume knife is sharp and must be packed in checked baggage.

Packing and hand baggage

• Pack the costume in a full-length, breathable garment bag, and make sure it is hanging properly on a hanger.
• Keep the costume silver in plastic bags inside a box with tissue paper, and carry it in your hand baggage.
• You can take brooches and buttons through security (they may set off the metal detector, so it is a good idea to put the silver in a separate bag for inspection).
• Standard baggage size limits apply (maximum 55×40×20 cm for hand baggage)

Important exceptions and rules

• The costume knife is strictly prohibited in hand baggage and must always be checked in inside the suitcase.
• If you travel directly wearing the costume, you must remove the silver and bag at security to avoid an additional check.
• Hang up the costume as soon as you arrive so that it can hang and air for 2–24 hours.
